For the first time in history, experience a unique and intriguing museum. Here you will delve deeper into a history of the modern Copts, beginning with the French Occupation of Egypt in 1798 and be fully immersed in a 200 year history till the repose of Pope Shenouda III in 2012.

Archdeacon Habib Girgis

At this museum you will meet such figures as Pope Cyril IV, know as the Father of Reform, Pope Cyril V who was the longest reigning pope, a total of 52 years, 9 months and 6 days! Habib Girgis was an archdeacon and an inspirational educator and reformer and at the museum you will engage with his writings and with his struggles. The visionary St Pope Cyril VI who was instrumental in revitalizing the spiritual life of Copts through liturgical offices will be emphasized. Pope Shenouda III was a charismatic leader who was loved by Egyptians both Muslims and Christians played a significant role in the life of the modern Church as well as Egyptian life in general. At the museum you will also meet a pope who also suffered house arrest under the Sadat regime and much, much more.

This museum hopes to have regular day seminars by leading scholars in the field on various aspects of this fascinating history which is an emerging field of study. The museum will display historic photos of the period, replicas of certain artefacts, videos and other historic material including magazines and newspaper articles. This is a rare museum and the first of its kind specifically designed around Copts in modernity.
